Septic rules in Broward County

New septic applications in Broward go in person to Onsite Sewage on the second floor of Environmental Engineering, Florida Department of Health in Broward, 2421-A SW 6th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale 33315. The department permits systems under DEP's rules, and Broward isn't on DEP's own county list. Environmental Public Health answers at 954-412-7335. The September 2026 packet wants the DEP 4015 application, a site plan, a floor plan with the building area, and a survey drawn to scale showing features within 75 feet of the property, signed and sealed by a surveyor and mapper.

The site evaluation comes from an approved evaluator, or from the department for $165.00. Plan review costs $100.00 at the first submittal and another $100.00 for any resubmittal. The permit fee is $260.00 for all systems, charged at issue, and it covers the permit and two inspections. If a private evaluator does the site work, staff still charge $165.00 to set the Mean Annual Flood Line. Broward's 25 places over 10,000 people hold 1,906,737 residents between them, which isn't a full county count.

EPA lists Pembroke Pines' city system at 187,459 people and Fort Lauderdale's at 185,163, both on ground water, though a water roster can't show who has a tank. If you're selling, section 381.0065(4)(v) of the Florida Statutes moves the permit with the title and bars any government from requiring a septic inspection at the point of sale.

Rules and fees change every year, so confirm a line with the health department before you rely on it. "No rule found" means the pages and code we have say nothing on that line, which isn't the same as the county telling you there's no rule. To compare counties, use the county rules lookup.
