How a request becomes a phone call, and who pays whom
SepticMatch is a referral service. We are not a septic company, we do not pump, inspect, repair or install anything, and we do not set prices. You tell us the job and where the house is, and we send the request to one independent company that works your county.
What happens when you send a request
- 01You give us the job, your ZIP code and a way to reach you.The job is one of eleven: pumping, inspection, repair, drain field, a new system, a riser and lid, an aerobic system, a pump and float, an inspection for a sale, a grease trap, or a backup right now. We use the ZIP code to find your county.
- 02We check whether we have a company for your county. If none we send to works your county, we say so before we ask for your number, and we do not keep the request.
- 03One company receives it.The company, or a referral partner acting for it, calls the number you gave. You decide whether to book. The price and the work are between you and the company.
How we are paid
The septic company, or the referral partner acting for it, pays us for each request we send it. You pay us nothing. That is a conflict of interest, and we state it here so you can weigh what we write. The companies that pay us cannot edit a page, and no company can pay to appear first, because we send each request to one company and publish no ranking.
Why matching is by county
A septic system is permitted and regulated locally. A county or district health department usually issues the permit, sets the rules for a sale inspection and decides what a repair needs, and the pumper who empties your tank may answer to a state license of its own. A company that works the next county over may follow different rules, so we match on the county, not the city.
If your request involves a sale or a permit, the county page tells you what to ask the health department. Where a county's pages leave a rule open, we say so, and we do not guess.
What we check, and what we do not
- Every rule, permit, license and fee statement on the site links to the page it came from, and each page shows the date we last reviewed it.
- Prices are labeled as estimates or evidence, never as quotes, and each shows its date.
- When a rule is unconfirmed, the page says so.
- We do not inspect, rate or answer for any septic company's work, and we publish no rankings.
- We do not tell you a company is licensed. We keep the license number a partner gives us on file, and we tell you to ask for it and check it with the regulator.
- We do not promise a call-back time, a price or an outcome.
Your information
Your request goes to the company described above, and to the vendors that run our forms, hosting and call tracking. The privacy policy says what we collect and what choices you have, and the do not sell page covers opting out.
